Makeup trends typically follow the latest looks on the fashion runways but they are also influenced by popular movies, celebrities, and color system creators like the Pantone Color Institute. Makeup artists and personal stylists keep a close eye on all of these so they can guide clients in translating elements of each into trendy new makeup looks.
PANTONE'S INFLUENCE ON MAKEUP PALETTES
The Pantone Color Institute creates new color palettes every season without exception. It is the gold-standard for color in the paint and design industry, including the fashion design industry. Paint companies and fashion designers use this color system as a guide when selecting and naming their own color palettes. Pantone's influence on the color trends of the fashion industry in 2024 will trickle down to makeup palettes in the following ways:
PEACH FUZZ
Pantone has proclaimed "Peach Fuzz" to be the 2024 Color of the Year as it celebrates it's 25th anniversary. Their intention is for it to represent the heartfelt desire to nurture kindness, compassion, and connection in our hopes for a peaceful future. You will be seeing makeup palettes in variations of this shade in foundations, eyeshadows, and blushes. Spring runway models were wearing it in shades ranging from pastels to brights, particularly on eyelids. It is flattering on a wide range of skintones so experiment and see how it works for you!

CHAMBRAY BLUE
Calming blue shades are also on trend in 2024 and Pantone's "Chambray Blue" is definitely one of them. It is a somewhat brighter shade of denim yet still subtle. Blue never goes out of vogue being everyone's go-to denim shade but it does tend to fall out of favor when it comes to makeup. If your eyes are brown or contain a lot of gold you can successfully wear it on your eyelids because blue and gold tones are at opposite ends of the Color Wheel so are considered "complementary". You can go brighter with it when wearing a cobalt outfit or paler when wearing pastels.

PASTEL LILAC
"Pastel Lilac" will be another influential Pantone shade in 2024 as was clearly illustrated in the Spring/Summer runway shows. It's actually not that pale a shade, resembling the same hue as the flower. Rihanna was seen wearing it recently on her eyelids, outlined in cobalt blue. It was stunning. There is a softness to this shade that is lovely on so many skintones. You can wear it on your eyelids if your eyes are green or olive.

CELEBRITY INFLUENCERS OF THE 2024 MAKEUP LOOKS
MARGOT ROBBIE shook up the beauty industry last year when she played the leading role in the "Barbie" movie. Her hot pink ensembles influenced not only the clothing industry but equally the makeup industry. The film was about empowering feminine energy and pink was it's central color scheme. It translated to makeup as rosy cheeks, pearly eyes and pastel pink glossy lips. Although it's popularity has waned somewhat it's influence is still being felt this year. You can achieve the look by using a good matte-finish primer like Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r Mini Mattifying Primer, a light bronze shade of foundation or tinted moisturizer like Charlotte Tillbury Hollywood Flawless Filter, a rosy pink pigment on the eyelids, a diamond-like pink shimmer inside the corners like SeneGence ShadowSense Pink Opal Shimmer*, lining the lids with a soft shade of brown liquid eyeliner, and applying a dark brown mascara to the lashes like SeneGence LashSense Volume Intense Waterproof Mascara in Black Brown*. Brush your brows, line them with a brown brow pencil, fill them in and brush them again. The cheeks are a really pale pastel pink. Use a pink contour stick like NYX ProFix Stick in 0.2 Pink to dab a little color on the cheeks and blend it above and across. You are going for a subtle healthy flush. Use a highlighter stick such as Victoria Beckham Reflect Highlighter Stick in Pearlescent Cream to dab the high points on your face; the bones on either side of your forehead, the top of the cheekbones, bridge of the nose and the chin. Blend each point in with a brush. The lips are equally soft and bright. Line them with a a pink shade like MAC Amplified High-Pigment Lipstick in Saint Germain before you fill them in with the same shade. The current Barbie look trending is minimal and modern. It is barely there but unforgettable.

HAILEY BIEBER is a huge social media influencer of makeup, being the creator of several previously successful makeup trends. Her latest is the "Sugar Plum Fairy" look and just like the character in the Nutcracker Ballet, it shines and glows. Similar to the whimsical Barbie look, it employs a lot of rose and embodies a dreamy, magical essence. First apply a really good facial oil like Eminence Organic & Biodynamic Facial Recovery Oil. Hailey's skin looks healthy and radiant and this is the best way to achieve it. You will also need a good makeup primer. Find one that makes your skin glow like LANIEGE Glowy Makeup Serum. Use a light concealer to cover any dark areas that may take away the light effect of this look. Use BB or CC creams containing SPF and color-correctors to tackle any redness and even out your skintone. Your blush should ideally be in liquid or gel form, like SeneGence Cream Blush* or MILK Makeup Cooling Water Jelly Lip Tint & Cheek Blush Stain. Choose a medium pink shade like Pink Berry* or Burst - Poppy Pink and apply it to your cheekbones. Bring the color up and around your temples, as is the trend now. This look is supposed to appear as if you just came in out of the cold. You want it to be "icy" so add a touch of blush at the end of your nose. For your brows you simply want to brush them and apply a clear gel, like SeneGence BrowSense Volumizing Brow Gel*. Your eyes should be consistent with the rest of your face with this look therefore you're going to use the same blush on your eyelids. Gently pat onto your lids and blend across. You can apply a slightly darker shade of pink in the crease if you wish. Now apply a shimmery white liquid shadow to the entire lid to create a sugary appearance. SeneGence ShadowSense Eyeshadow in Silver Shimmer* works well for this. A layer of clear gloss like GUCCI Luminous Face & Lip Gloss will complete the look by setting it and giving it a wet, shiny winter-like ambiance. A good lash-priming mascara like SeneGence UnderSense 3 in 1 Maximizing Lash Primer* can be applied to the lashes to prevent flaking. Finally, your lips should be ultra glossy or shiny. Choose a rosy gloss like SeneGence LipSense Moisturizing Gloss in Rose* and top it off with Glossy Gloss*.

TAYLOR SWIFT has a huge following of young fans therefore is very influential in the makeup industry as well. Her look is classic so is easy to recreate. ALODERMA Aloe Hydrating Toner is a good choice. A good SPF under or within your moisturizer is a must. Her skin likely never sees the sun. CLINIQUE Moisture Surge Broad Spectrum 28 is a good one. You will want to find an effective concealer as well to lighten up any dark areas, particularly dark circles.
